On November 6, 2011, nearly five years of building the capacity of Sudanese leaders came to fruition when the village of El-Malam in Darfur experienced a breakthrough on its journey to reconciliation and the road to sustainable peace.

The Institute for Sustainable Peace held a reception on Monday, January 30, 2012. Participants first experienced peacebuilding firsthand through a generative dialogue exercise. Afterward the group heard the personal stories of Lukman Ahmed, chief correspondent for BBC Arabic Channel in Washington D.C., and Makki Makki, ISP Sudan Project manager, about our new reconciliation program in Darfur.

We live in such polarized times that there are people in the world today who don’t believe in dialogue. Some people are so polarized in their own thinking that they act as though dialogue is a dangerous thing.
